I feel very lucky to be a photographer.
I originally trained as a photojournalist, and I’ve travelled extensively throughout Australia documenting myriad lifestyles and environments. I much prefer being behind the lens than in front of it, so I take great pride in helping others who aren’t too keen on being photographed. I can honestly say that every day is different in my line of work!
My assignments have ranged from photographs of special things, like rare snails and exquisite jewellery; to special people from the Dalai Lama to the Queen. I’ve been under dam walls and in mine shafts as well as in hot air balloons and Bell Jet rangers. Clients have booked me to rally from Sydney to Darwin in 4 wheel drive vehicles and I’ve spent a couple of memorable weeks capturing images in the jungle in Northern Borneo.
Nikon is my equipment of choice. I have always used their 35mm gear, starting my working life with the trusty FM2. For medium format work, I used Mamiya 6×7 and square format Hasselblad cameras. I now have the latest mirrorless bodies and a range of Nikon lenses, a dedicated studio, and use a mobile studio when I travel.
I am known for my discretion; I am often engaged to photograph during sensitive or closed-door events and am always respectful of those I interact with. I have a broad, long-term client base in the National Capital and am the preferred photographer for many corporate and government bodies. I hold a security pass for Parliament House, Canberra, am familiar with most conferencing and event venues and enjoy excellent working relationships with others in the industry.
